TOUR INCLUDES:
Base Driving Tour: You’ll get a good look at the former Army post built in the late 1800s called Fort Crook, where now more than 10,000 people serve daily. The host unit of Offutt is the 55th Wing, but the installation also houses U.S. Strategic Command, the 557th Weather Wing and the 595th Command & Control Group among others.
Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) Lab: Offutt is home to one of two DPAA laboratories in the world. The roughly 50 scientists who work at the lab are answering our nation’s promise of never leaving anyone behind as they try and ID fallen service members from conflicts around the world to return to their loved ones.
Static Aircraft Tour: The 55th Wing has more than 30 aircraft in their fleet, consisting of mostly C-135s. Depending on availability, static aircraft tours are available where visitors will get to board an aircraft and learn more about the wing’s worldwide mission.
Underground Tour: When U.S. Strategic Command’s new $1.1B facility was finished in 2019, the 55th Wing moved into their old headquarters building. Originally the home of Strategic Air Command and built in the 1950s, the facility includes the SAC underground made famous during the Cuban Missile Crisis, Cold War and 9/11. (*Please note there is a good amount of walking on this tour.)
